Scope and Contents
This collection contains four baby books compiled by Grace Hall Hemingway for her daughter Madelaine Hemingway. Although these were four baby books, they were later rehoused into seven albums due to their size. These baby books include writings by Grace Hall Hemingway, clippings, correspondence, memorabilia, and photographs of the Hemingway family and home. These scrapbooks include many photographs of Madelaine and Ernest Hemingway as children as well as stories and vignettes of their childhood. These scrapbooks depict camps, church attendance, holidays, outings, parties, play, portraits, recitals, schooling, and sports. The scrapbooks also include correspondence between Hemingway family members, friends, and extended family. In the final scrapbook, a few items were added after Grace Hall Hemingway's death in 1951 by an unknown person.
