Abstract

This collection contains pamphlets associated with Fidel Castro, the Cuban Revolution, and Cuban politics. These pamphlets were chiefly created in support of the Castro regime by the Cuban government and persons sympathetic to the Castro regime in the United States, Canada, and India. This collection also includes some pamphlets critical of the Castro regime which include anti-Cuban and anti-Soviet themes common during the Cold War. Many of these pamphlets were created by

Scope and Contents

This collection contains pamphlets associated with Fidel Castro, the Cuban Revolution, and Cuban politics. These pamphlets were chiefly created in support of the Castro regime by the Cuban government and persons sympathetic to the Castro regime in the United States, Canada, and India. This collection also includes some pamphlets critical of the Castro regime which include anti-Cuban and anti-Soviet themes common during the Cold War. Many of these pamphlets were created or owned by the Fair Play for Cuba Committee, a sympathetic grassroots activist organization based in New York City.

These pamphlets include government publications, printed speeches, pro- and anti-Castro propaganda, and newsletters. This collection includes writings by Fidel Castro, Osvaldo Dorticós Torrado, Waldo Frank, and Ernesto "Che" Guevara.

The collection also includesa master negative microfilm of the pamphlets in this collection as well as a reel guide.

Custodial History

These materials appear to have been chiefly compiled by the Fair Play for Cuba Committee. A few items may have been separated from the library of Luis Alberto Sánchez and interfiled into this collection (including a pamphlet inscribed to Dr. Sánchez' wife Rosa).

Grace Pérez originally inventoried this collection when compiling a reel guide for microfilmed materials. Two items were not part of this original inventory. Lexy deGraffenreid reinventoried this collection in 2022 and foldered material due to preservation concerns. She retained Grace Pérez' original numbering scheme and also updated this finding aid.
