Summary
Abstract
This collection of the works of Robert Lima consists of his poetry, translations, and his writings, primarily on Ramón del Valle-Inclán. It includes two collections of Lima's poems, Sardinia/Sardegna and The Rites of Stone. A later addition included several files of correspondence between Lima and a variety of people, some spanning thirty years or more. Mixed in with those files are records related to theatre groups; translations completed by Lima; documents related to his poetry anthologies, and contracts.

Background
Biographical / Historical
Robert Lima was born in Havana, Cuba in 1935. After immigrating to the United States, Lima earned a Bachelor of Arts in English, Philosophy and History and a Master of Arts in Theatre and Drama, both from Villanova University. Following that, he completed a Ph.D. in Romance Literatures at New York University. Lima served in the United States Army Reserve before eventually working fulltime as an artist and teacher.
During his lifetime, Robert Lima was a poet, professor, literary critic, biographer, editor, and translator. He retired from Penn State University in 2002 as Professor Emeritus of Spanish and Comparative Literature and as Fellow Emeritus of the Institute for the Arts and Humanistic Studies.

Scope and Contents
This collection of the works of Robert Lima consists of his poetry, translations, and his writings, primarily on Ramón del Valle-Inclán. It includes two collections of Lima's poems, Sardinia/Sardegna and The Rites of Stone. In addition, there is a photocopy of the typescript for Lima’s anthology Tracking the Minotaur and Other Poems. The collection also includes his translations: an undated photocopy typescript with corrections in hand of Bread and Rice or Geometry in Yellow by José Maria Bellído; The Lamp of Marvels by Ramón del Valle-Inclán (1986); and the typed, signed manuscript of Lima's edited translation of Borges the Labyrinth Maker by Ana Maria Barrenechea (1964). A later addition included several files of correspondence between Lima and a variety of people, some spanning thirty years or more.
Arrangement
For Accession 2022-0071 (Boxes 7 and 8), the documents were kept in the original file folders that were labeled by Lima and the order he imposed remains intact.

Custodial History
These materials were created and collected by Robert Lima. Robert Lima donated these materials to the Eberly Family Special Collections Library between 2016-2021.
The 2022 addition to the collection (Accession 2022-0071) was donated posthumously by Robert Lima’s widow, Sally Lima.

This collection was minimally processed at the point of accessioning by housing in archival enclosures.
