Background

Biographical / Historical

The State College Choral Society was founded in 1949 by Martha Ramsey. Previously, the Society membership had been known as the Musical Section of the Women's Club. However, upon inviting men to join in 1949, the Society broke off from the Women's Club and officially incorporated. The State College Choral Society performed its first concert at St. Paul's Methodist Church on 4 December 1949. The State College Choral Society has adopted the seal of Johann Sebastian Bach as its logo. The Society is composed of over 170 members and is known as one of the largest groups performing a classical repertoire in the region. The Society holds concerts bi-annually during the winter and spring.
