Abstract

Howard Ray Lawrence (born 1936) was an assistant professor of architecture at Penn State University from 1972 to 1998. This collection contains drawings by Professor Lawrence's first year architecture students of historic buildings in Centre County, Pennsylvania, accompanied by historical maps of townships in the county.

Biographical / Historical

Howard Ray Lawrence (born 1936) received his bachelor's degree in architecture in 1962 and his master's degree in art in 1964, both from the University of California at Berkeley. From 1965 to 1970 he worked for various architectural firms in the United States. In 1970 he was an instructor at the City College of San Francisco; from 1970 to 1971 he served as Assistant Professor at the Hampton Institute and from 1971 to 1972 at the University of Kansas. In 1972 he came to the Pennsylvania State University's College of Arts and Architecture, where he taught basic design and visual communication for 26 years, until his retirement in 1998.
