Abstract
This collection consists of handwritten letters and typescript transcriptions documenting the American Civil War experience of Sergeant Albion Dennis Brooks who served in the 8th Connecticut Infantry Regiment. The collection also contains an antebellum school notebook containing handwritten arithmetic, lyrics to a song celebrating people in crafts and trade (cabinetmakers, shipbuilders, hatters, textile and metal workers), and the haunting ballad by Robert Southey, "Mary, the maid of the inn" is also included.

Scope and Contents
This collection consists of handwritten letters, diary pages and typescript transcriptions documenting the American Civil War experience of Sergeant Albion Dennis Brooks who served in the 8th Connecticut Infantry Regiment. Letters to his sister and Kingman family members comprise the bulk of the collection.
Also included are: a certificate appointing Brooks to First Sergeant; a photograph of an American Civil War soldier; and an antebellum school notebook containing handwritten arithmetic, lyrics to a song celebrating people in crafts and trade (cabinetmakers, shipbuilders, hatters, textile and metal workers), and the haunting ballad by Robert Southey, "Mary, the maid of the inn."
Arrangement
All personal correspondence and writings arranged chronologically. Transcriptions are maintained in the original order of the donor and include diary accounts, personal correspondence and a report not otherwise part of the collection.
